All Six Senior Sides into the Semi Finals. 17's and 13's the Hopes for the Juniors
KTC - 6/150 (S. Devenish 34, C. Wenham 30) Drew with Upper Ferntree Gully 2/5 (C. Wenham 1/1)
Well here we are again folks the Semi Finals. Maybe we should tell them they need to win this week to make finals, good thinking. The Boys gained 3 points against Upper for the washout and that point them 3 points clear and they will now face Upper Ferntree Gully at Kings Park this Saturday and Sunday. On another note Craig Wenham and Bryn Gaunt tied for the First XI Best and Fairest - Congratulations guys. Last note - Please, Please, Please make it past the semi's, I don't think Wilko's heart could take it one more time (No Pressure Dunlop).
DIV 3 - 7/279 (C. Bourke 67, T. Reid 57, T. Gstrein 49, B. Rickard 48) Defeated Upper Ferntree Gully 5/190
What a Saturday - not only did the boys smash Upper Ferntree Gully, but they finished the home and away season with a win that put them on top of the table. They will now face Eildon Park on the main oval at Fairpark Reserve on Saturday and Sunday. Finals action for the first time in seven years, so congratulations. Best and Fairest results caused a bit of controversy on the night with a four way tie, but well deserved to Troy Gstrein (Happy Birthday for Saturday), Byron Rickard, Tim Reid and Matthew Sim. The comp batting average, however went solely to Matthew Sim with an average of 60.33, How nervous would you have been on Saturday in junk time trying to get red ink and sew up the average. Congatulations guys, now lets have a big week on the track.
DIV 5 - 8/195 (D. Maclachlan 68, J. Hall 31) Defeated Ferntree Gully 10/167 (I.Morse 4/39)
Before we talk about results - Hally what were you thinking trying to mark he simplest of catches only to splash the simplest of catches. There almost looked like a little bit of "oh how easy is this going to be". On a serious note the boys will face Ferntree Gully out the back at Fairpark Reserve after finishing top of the table. Umpires this week and lets hope it doesnt bite us in the bum. We have been pleading for them all year, but lets not just assume they will win it for us. Next Monday we can relax, but until then we need to work, work, work. Congratulations to Skippy Kallista for winning the Thirds Best and Fairest. I don't know if it was arrogance or confidence, but Skippy guessed Saturday afternoon exactly how many votes he got or would get - 16.
DIV 7 - 0/220 (J. Gstrein 108*, L. Dinon 89*) Defeated Belgrave 10/218 (B. Degraff 4/33)
So RAIN is Ferntree Gully's Kryptonite, I thought only the wicked witch of the west was worried about that. Well it is now raining Finals at the shark tank. The boys crushed Belgrave in a must win game. Star of the show was 15 year old Jarrod Gstrein scoring his maiden senior hundred in front of his father (something that you will both look back on fondly). Well done guys, they will now take on Eildon Park on Saturday and Sunday. The Fourths Best and Fairest Winner for Season 09/10 was the sentimental favourite - Luke Dinon. Hilarious as Luke is, he was unable to attend the night, so he had Simon and Mark put him on speaker throughout the count. He then made his acceptance speech over the phone. We were awarding the Winners a pint of beer on the night, but I had prepared a bottle of sunscreen as your prize Ghost, so come and see me (remember these cloudy days are the worst, we need to keep reinforcing that message). Congratulations and Good Luck for the finals.
B1 - 4/182 (J. Simmonds 50*, J. Stephens 36, R. Wallace 36) Defeated South East Wanderers 10/177 (G. Hall 4/19, J. Stephens 3/38)
This week is going to be one of mixed emotions for the Fifths boys. Finishing on top of the table, the boys will either play at Fairhills or Dobson Park (this will be confirmed later in the week) and they will take on their arch rivals in Wandin East. They had a thrilling game in the rain earlier on this season (Ferntree Gully definitely wouldn't have seen the game out) and then had smashed them in their second encounter, so the boys know they cannot take this game for granted. In Best and Fairest news we would like to congratulate John Simmonds for winning his second Best and Fairest at the club in three years. He just pipped Jason Stephens in what was a thrilling vote count. Well done guys and Good Luck for this Saturday.
B3 - 6/218 (W. Burgess 55*, K. Miller 43, L. Mckiernan 31) Defeated Bayswater 7/211 (G. Hill 3/35)
We all said Scotty doesn't know at the start of the season, but boy were we wrong. He picked up a few gun recruits in Burgess, Mclean andbrought in the likes of Mckiernan and Miller to form a formidable force. The boys will take on The Basin, who have been scratchy the last few weeks, so nows the time to strike. Congratulations has to go out to Wayne Burgess for winning the Sixth XI Best and Fairest and we believe he won the comp batting average with an avergae of 88.75, but this has yet to be confirmed with Rowville not entering their players scores yet. Good Luck this Saturday guys, bring it home.
U17 - 4/179 (J. Graffen 53*, T. Barrington 36) Defeated Eildon Park 6/124
With a shaky period after Christmas the boys have managed to finish second on the table and have earnt the right to host Mulgrave, who they have beaten this season, at Fairpark Reserve this Saturday and Sunday. The boys needed to win this game to even make finals, but with results going their way they now have the chance to play off in a grand final. No holding back now. Let me assure you guys, it may not seem like much now, but these are the games you look back on all your life - Junior Finals with the Best of Mates. Enjoy it and enjoy all the support you will get from senior guys on the sidelines. Remember Junior Presentation is on the 27th of March at JPCC.
U15 - 9/67 Lost to Eildon Park 3/145
Tough game against top of the table Eildon Park, but the boys can be proud of the fantastic year they have had. I hope everyone had fun and know, like the rest of the club, that this group of kids will go along way in our senior ranks in the not too distant future. Congratulations on the year you guys have had. Don't let this be the end of your season guys, we would love to see everyone of you at the ground on Saturday supporting the 17's - every shark is crucial to our success on and off the field.
U13 - 2/192 (B. Dewar 23*, M. Adams 21*, J. Carnell 21*, C. Flanagan 20*, T. Gstrein 20*, S. Bhatia 20*, R. Cox 20*) Defeated Bayswater Belgrave 10/89 (M. Adams 3/7)
Susan Boyle eat your heart out because Cam and the Under 13's are Living the Dream. Needing to win of Saturday to make finals all the wee little ones contributed, seven of them surpassing 20. The Pups will now take on the Belgrave at Belgrave on Saturday and we wish them the best of luck. This should be a great game as their are spies in both camps and it will be down to pure cricketing ability and who works the best as a team that will determine a winner. Good Luck guys, oh and Cam Your rabbit is still alive the one that died was his brother - they all look alike.
To the Under 11's and Under 12's well done on your years. There a some future stars definitely coming from this litter. Young Zac Elkins, Liam Francis, Nathan Goodwin, Cody Macdonald and the list goes on. We hope to see all you guys around the club this finals series and make sure you are all back next year and hopefully playing finals.
